Thank you! :)

What an incredible feeling to have been able to experience 4 things that I have never done before, and may not get the opportunity to do again! I loved hiking, biking, rock climbing, and wake boarding SO much! It is so amazing that we were able to do all of this in a span of two weeks! Thank you so much to Doc and Leanne, and all of the people who helped us! :)

WAKE BOARDING!

Yesterday I was able to go to a private lake and wake board, thanks to Leanne and her family and friends! I had an awesome time and was actually able to get up on the board. I have tried once before but was unsuccessfully, so it felt really good to be on top of the water for a little bit! Now, the next day, I am sore but want to be out on the water again so bad! I need to try again so I can get comfortable with it! I just had such a great time!

Pashastin Rock Climb

I had the most amazing time on Thursday in Pashastin rock climbing. How wonderful to have the opportunity to experience something new, and something you may never have another  chance to be a part of. I was able to climb five times, receiving an advanced grade. I was proud of myself for being capable of achieving this much on an activity I have never done before. Everyone did such a great job! :) I would definitely, given the opportunity again, jump on a chance to go rock climbing with all of the experienced helpers and company.

Rock Climbing

Last Thursday we worked on the climbing wall at Ellensburg High School. Here we learned what we need to call out while we are climbing and while we are on the ground working with the ropes. We also learned how to tie two basic knots, which we will need to remember for this week when we travel to Leavenworth for the real thing. I am more excited then anything for this Thursday's rock climbing because I think it will be a fun, new, and adventurous activity to try. We will just have to see how it goes! :) I can't wait!

Advanced Bike Ride

Wow, I had a really great time today on our bike ride! I did not even notice how far we had gone, or how difficult the ride was because my concentration was on the beautiful outdoors and the warm air blowing in my face. :) The only part that was a bit scary was after we had taken our break on the way down hill. It was pretty steep at first but then eased up and was a lot of fun! I wish that the rest of the ride would not have been closed off because I think I would have enjoyed it! I would love to go back and do the ride once again!

HIKING

We went on the hike at Manastash last Tuesday. It was definitely a good work out! I had to take some rest breaks, like most others did. However, I thought I did pretty well. I liked going at my own pace and let the others pass me for a bit. This was nice because I did not feel hurried and I was able to enjoy the gorgeous view around me!

Advanced BIKING

I was originally signed up for the recreational bike ride and recently switched to the advanced session next Tuesday. I am a little bit nervous that the terrain will be too difficult for me to ride on. Doc said that he believes I can do it if I practice, so practice I will do. I am determined to successfully complete the course and work my hardest to do so! If anyone would like to practice with me, let me know! :)

Honors Camp & Mosquitos

We are back from honors camp with tired bodies and a whole lot of mosquito bites. However, another experience with students (middle school eighth graders) to put under our belts. We arrived on Friday afternoon not knowing what to expect. After meeting with the recreation/tourism students and the honors kids, we knew this weekend would be filled with camp songs, and fun! Limwell, Tiffany, and I did our class sessions on survival shelters, which ended up being an absolute blast. The three of us worked very well on a team together and the students seemed to enjoy learning and applying their new found survival skills with their friends. I hope to take part in another camp experience in the future!

GEOCHACHING!

GEOCACHING! What a fun game! I did not know much about this activity before today's class, and I really enjoyed learning about another fun recreational thing to do. It is so different and adventurous, and something I would definitely look into in the future. I just might have to sign up for a geocaching membership so I am aware of the locations that await me, and the hidden goodies that people have left for new comers like me to discover!

Orienteering: Compasses & Maps

Last Thursday we worked on orienteering; we used compasses and maps to find our way around. Being an individual whom can be quite terrible with directions at times, I was excited to see what this class session would bring to me. As it turns out, compasses and maps are much easier to read then I had previously thought. Although it took me a couple of times to successfully complete the given activities using a compass, I would now be able to look at one later and navigate. The campus map was easy for me to read, as it should be. I really enjoyed exploring some of the Central campus that I had not been to before; I will probably use that activity for one of my classes in the future!

Circus Arts: I Need Work

Today we spent a lot of time on circus arts, which I think helped me improve. I only attempted to get graded on flower sticks since i know I need a lot more work on all the other skills; I passed! :) Now I need to get some extra practice time in on my own in order to master my abilities. I am having fun and am getting closer. A little more hard work and determination will do the trick!

A Creative Approach to Board Sports

Indo Boards; what an awesome way to practice your balance and prepare yourself for a board sport! It shows that there are so many different approaches that teachers can use to properly prepare themselves and their students for the various skills to be learned. The Discovery kids really seemed to enjoy themselves and everyone was involved. I also had a great time trying to find my balance on the Indo Board, for I have never experienced a board sport before. In fact, I might be able to pick up snowboarding pretty quick! :)

fRiSbEe Is FuN!

Before today, I was not very interested in frisbee at all. However, after playing a little bit of competitive ultimate, my opinion has changed! I had a really great time learning this new sport because it is a fun way to work up a sweat without realizing you are getting a workout. This is something that I will definitely play with friends and family in the future! :) I feel as though once the wind subsides a bit, I will make another attempt at frisbee golf. Without those gusts of wind, I may have played better (excuses, excuses). Overall, a good first experience with the various tasks and games involved with frisbee.

My bum hurts..

Yesterday was such a beautiful sunny day for outside activities. I really enjoyed conditioning while riding my mountain bike (or Limwell's) on the course set up for us! It was challenging, yet doable. Riding a bike again felt awesome! :) However, if I am going to attempt this talk of 1 1/2 hours of uphill riding, I am going to need some practice! I also liked learning about archery; a sport you see in movies like Robin Hood, Princess Diaries, and Adam's Family Values, but have never actually tried in real life. Although I had a bit of trouble on the first  try, I got the hang of it by the end and am excited to make another attempt sometime soon!

Circus Arts!

Although fun, unique, and exciting, circus arts can be very difficult! Learning something new is hard at first but just like riding a bike you must start from the beginning and learn as you go. I am having trouble with some aspects of this unit such as unicycling, and the chinese yoyo. If anyone would like to practice, let me know! :)

Movement 3: My First Thoughts

As we entered the classroom on the first day of Movement 3, I was not sure what to expect from a six credit physical education course. It was shortly explained that we, as a cohort, would be participating in an array of activities expanding our skill and knowledge in this field of teaching. I was, and am very excited to be introduced to new skills that I may later use in my own PE classes. It will most definitely be a challenge. However, I will motivate myself and others to accomplish the common goal of this course, to better ourselves as not only future teachers but as people.
